Teenage Golden Gate Ninja Turtles

Otis and I took a long walk in Golden Gate park yesterday and discovered the mass quantity of turtles that inhabit Stow Lake. I don't know if it's a Spring phenomenon or a year-round thing, but they are everywhere. Big, little, baby, striped -- you name it. And no matter what their shape, they were taking full advantage of the warm sun.

Mallards are also paired off and hanging about in the vegetation along the shoreline. I didn't realize mallards were so plentiful in this area of the country. And it was weird to see them among seagulls and pigeons -- very different from the mallards on Thunder Lake, who limit their socializing to respectable varieties of lakeshore birds.

It was a perfect Spring day -- and the perfect escape from the city.
